The zero-interest deferred loan provides funding for first-time homebuyers towards down payment and closing costs, making it easier to get approved for a mortgage. Since 1995, the program has funded more than 648 families.

In 1944 five black men became the City of Miami’s’ first black patrolmen. They were denied the rights that were given to their white counterparts. One of those rights was to join the local PBA. It was with courage and tenacity that those very men decided to make history. They founded the Miami Colored Police Benevolent Association (MCPBA) in 1946. The MCPBAs’ goals included relief of the poor, advancement of education, the erection of public buildings and monuments, lessening the burdens of government and neighborhood tensions, eliminating prejudice and discrimination, defense of human rights, combating community deterioration and juvenile delinquency.

The City of Jackson Mental Health Warm Line is staffed with licensed clinical social workers who will assess the mental health concerns of citizens and connect callers to mental health providers. From 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday, anyone experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, or just needing someone to talk to can call the warmline at 601-586-3073 or 866-300-7948. The warm line will continue to operate beyond the COVID-19 pandemic to address the mental health needs of the community.

Founded in Jacksonville in May 1977, Mental Health Resource Center, Inc. (MHRC) is a Florida nonprofit corporation that provides a wide range of behavioral health and social services to the community.  Included in MHRC’s service array are 24-hour emergency services; inpatient psychiatric services for children, adolescents and adults; and numerous outpatient services, including medication management, case management, counseling, supported housing, psychosocial rehabilitation, two programs for the homeless, a therapeutic family program, state hospital liaison services, forensic services, in-jail services, and nine Florida Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) programs for adults with severe and persistent mental illness located in Clearwater, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Kissimmee, Rockledge, Tampa, and Winter Haven.
