Founded in 1994 and based in Miami, Florida, the Caribbean Bar Association (“CBA”) is a voluntary bar organization that has grown from just over 25 lawyers at its inception, to well over 200 attorneys from the Caribbean-American community in South and Central Florida. CBA attorneys work in both the public and private sectors and practice criminal law, civil and commercial litigation, administrative law, family, immigration, business and corporate, insurance defense, medical malpractice, real estate, trust and estates, probate, maritime, international law, arbitration, personal injury, land use and zoning law, among other areas of practice.

The mission of the Brooklyn Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP), an independent 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, is to ensure that the legal system is accessible to those who, because of special needs or the overwhelming burdens of poverty, would not otherwise have their rights protected or their voices heard. Since its founding in 1990, the VLP has harnessed the powerful pro bono commitment of the private bar to provide critical civil legal services and equal access to the justice system to thousands of Brooklyn residents. As an essential legal lifeline, the VLP remains uniquely responsive to the evolving legal needs of Brooklyn’s overlooked and underserved communities.

The Black Women’s Health Imperative focuses specifically on the health and wellness disparities faced by Black women and girls. Created by Black women for the needs of their communities, Black Women’s Health Imperative provides educational networks focused on the prevention of HIV for cis and transgender Black women.

We offer a variety of scholarship opportunities for qualified first-time incoming freshmen, community college transfer students, ROTC students and currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. Most scholarships require full-time attendance and are based on the applicant's academic or extracurricular record, while some are based on financial need. Alia Malik is an education reporter for the San Antonio Express-News. She covers several local school districts, community colleges and education trends. Before joining the Express-News in 2013, she worked for a daily newspaper in Connecticut, where she covered the city of Naugatuck and some of the fallout from the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The daughter of a New Englander and a Bangladeshi immigrant, Alia grew up in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and graduated from the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. A former Peace Corps volunteer in El Salvador, she speaks and writes fluently in Spanish.
