The Bronx NHS reinvigorates underserved neighborhoods by creating and preserving affordable housing and providing opportunities for home ownership education, financial assistance and community leadership. Working in partnership with government and business, we are led by local residents and guided by local needs.

Every community in this city has a story to tell. A journal of its people’s daily lives, their struggles, their achievements and their contribution to something greater than themselves. The Latino community’s journey in this city stands as a stark example of people who came to this country looking for a better life for their families and a brighter future for their children. We have much to be proud of. It is time that a publication existed in The Bronx with the express purpose of chronicling our community in a way that will allow for future generations to know our history, what we stood for, what we achieved as individuals, and as a community, and what our expectations were for our future generations. We have pioneered a ground-breaking, nationally recognized model of defense called holistic defense that achieves better outcomes for our clients. Each year, we defend 27,000 low-income Bronx residents in criminal, civil, child welfare, and immigration cases, and we reach thousands more through our community intake and outreach programs. But we don’t stop there. We take what we learn and launch innovative initiatives designed to bring about real and lasting change for the communities we serve.

The Bridge Center, a nonprofit, was formed to help East Baton Rouge Parish residents who are experiencing a mental health crisis. Specifically centered around previously incarcerated individuals.

The HomeFirst Down Payment Assistance Program provides qualified homebuyers with up to $40,000 toward the down payment or closing costs on a 1-4 family home, a condominium, or a cooperative in one of the five boroughs of New York City. Community-based counseling agencies certified by HUD and approved by HPD to participate in the HomeFirst program will promote the program through newsletters, flyers, and seminars; distribute program guidelines; and enroll consumers in Homebuyer Education classes. The counseling agencies will also certify income eligibility for the Down Payment Assistance Program, counsel consumers about program requirements, certify completion of Homebuyer Education classes, and refer consumers to participating lenders for pre-approval.
