The Liberty Fund’s mission is to reduce the number of New Yorkers subjected to unnecessary pretrial detention while simultaneously providing them with much needed social services. Since August 2017, The Liberty Fund has been critical to the City’s overall decarceration efforts, first through our citywide Charitable Bail Program and now also through our ROR (Released On Recognizance) Program, both of which provide voluntary, person-centered, pretrial case management support. -- The Liberty Fund’s overall goals are: 1) to build trust and rapport with clients; 2) to support clients in other aspects of their lives through voluntary services; and 3) to facilitate clients’ personal success to prevent further recidivism. We achieve this through our unique approach: 1) Pretrial – Interventions initiated at the most critical touch point for success; 2) Voluntary – Non-mandated services to ensure no additional sanctions; 3) Person-Centered – Best-fit services determined by the participant; 4) Court-based – Engagement leveraged at court for effective time usage.

The Deaf-Blind program at the Iowa Department for the Blind helps individuals obtain information about the resources available to assist with everyday life. This may include information on technology and/or communication aids such as the Tellatouch, TTY, American Sign Language, Personal FM systems, phone amplifiers, technological aids, vibra-calls, writing guides and more.

Legal Aid's mission is to secure justice and resolve fundamental problems for those who are low income and vulnerable by providing high quality legal services and working for systemic solutions. We carry out our mission every day by providing legal services at no cost to low-income clients, helping ensure fairness for all in the justice system—regardless of how much money a person has. Legal Aid handles cases that impact basic needs such as health, shelter and safety, economics and education, and access to justice. Our attorneys practice in the areas of consumer rights, domestic violence, education, employment, family law, health, housing, foreclosure, immigration, public benefits, utilities, and tax.

Our Project is federally funded with additional support from Iowa Department of Education, Iowa School for the Deaf, Iowa Educational Services for the Blind & Visually Impaired and Iowa’s Area Education Agencies. Our Project Goals Include: Provide training to families and service providers who work with children who are identified as deafblind. Increase educational achievement. Assist families and educational teams to make effective plans for times of transition. Increase the ability of families to effectively participate in the education of their child. Collaborate with the medical, community, and infant toddler services to identify children with deaf-blindness early so services can be provided to the child and family. Maintain learners on the Iowa census for the National Child Count

The Legal Aid Society, fellow local criminal justice advocacy organizations, elected officials, and New Yorkers from over-policed communities unveiled a new campaign today at City Hall – Erase The Database NYC – to abolish the New York City Police Department’s secretive gang database, reports THE CITY. Since 2014, thousands of New Yorkers – including hundreds of children – have been added to the NYPD’s gang database. During that span, Mayor Bill de Blasio and the NYPD have launched dozens of militarized gang takedowns – “precision policing” – targeting mostly Black and Latinx communities based on gang associations.
