Our Mission is to provide food for Iowa children, families and seniors to lead full and active lives, strengthening the communities where they live. Besides traditional food banking, the Food Bank of Iowa operates four successful programs: BackPack Program™ – The program serves more than 5,000 low income children each week at 143 sites in 31 Iowa counties with sacks of child friendly, easy-to-prepare foods for weekends. Help Us Stop Hunger (HUSH) program – A collaborative effort among Iowa deer hunters, Iowa’s food banks, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Through this program we provide high-quality protein to Iowans struggling with hunger. School Pantry Program – Our School Pantry Program provides a convenient supply of food in 91 school locations that are comfortable and convenient for kids in need and their families in 31 counties. Mobile Pantry Program – A mobile pantry is a farmers market style distribution targeted toward counties with a need for additional pantry assistance.

Ruth Ellis Center (REC) has established a national reputation for quality and innovation in providing trauma-informed services for lesbian, gay, bi-attractional, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ+) youth, and young adults, with an emphasis on young people of color, experiencing homelessness, involved in the child welfare system, and/or experiencing barriers to health and wellbeing. Reproductive health services including: STD testing and treatment, HIV testing and guidance, HIV prevention services, Transition care for transgender youth, Birth control. General health services: “Quick visits for general medical issues (sore throat, rash, ear infection, cough/cold), Visits for longer term medical issues (asthma management, healthy weight, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.).” The Drop-in Center provides a space for "Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans* and Questioning Young People ages 13-30 to simply be themselves and have a space to hang out with one another." Their Kofi House provides “After school tutoring, internships, preparing for college and/or vocational training support, etc.” for queer girls. Their board includes several black people and they have a statement about racial equity and transformative justice on their home page.
