East Harlem Preservation, Inc. (EHP) is a volunteer-driven, non-commercial, 501(c)3 advocacy organization founded in 2005 to promote and preserve the neighborhood’s history and diversity. EHP seeks to empower underserved low-income, and working families in East Harlem/El Barrio and surrounding areas by providing free and unfiltered local news and information about local programs and upcoming events through our popular social media accounts, website, and monthly newsletter. EHP is led by community activists, educators, and artists who live and/or work in East Harlem and been involved in many local issues. Our website and social media resources are available to residents and community partners as free platforms for self- and collective expression and empowerment. EHP often collaborates with and lends resources to local, national and international activists and artists working to challenge policies and practices that negatively impact their neighborhoods and who advocate for the development of sound, community-based alternatives. Our members also conduct neighborhood tours and organize media and educational campaigns and regularly engage in community empowerment actions involving affordable housing; social and environmental justice; land-marking; and government transparency.
